An integral
part of
our Mission is our core of performing arts workshops, scheduled throughout the year.
And, of course, we continue to offer our Summer Youth Theatre Workshop, an
enriching Day Camp experience for ages 6-16.

Lewiston Civic Theatre’s Traveling Theatre Troupe is
On The Road Again!
The
Lewiston Civic Theatre is currently on the move!
The Traveling Theatre Troupe has been performing for
Clarkston elementary students in their schools, in
addition to some Lewiston and Juliaetta students.
The Troupe does a short play for the whole school
and then an active workshop based on the play with
two or three of the school’s classes. The play and
workshop are all written with a focus on Washington
and Idaho state standards in Theatre, not to mention
being fun and entertaining! Normally it is difficult
for schools, especially elementary schools, to teach
theatre to their students. Well, the Lewiston Civic
Theatre makes it almost painless: the play and
lessons covering most of their state standards come
directly to the schools!
This year, the Troupe’s play is based on the Hans
Christian Anderson story: The Snow Queen. Only we
have changed it a little to The Techno Queen (script
by Terrill Settles and Mary Minton). Instead of the
boy being frozen by the evil Snow Queen, our evil
Techno Queen tempts the boy away from his book
reading with video games. If he isn’t rescued in
time by our heroine, Gerda, he will become a
character in one of the Techno Queen’s video games.
Does Gerda make it in time? You’ll have to ask one
of the elementary students to find out!
All the students at each school are given a bookmark
to encourage their reading - with quotes from the
characters in the play and information about the
Lewiston Civic Theatre, including Jacqulyn Haight’s
Summer Children’s Studio Workshop.
Special acknowledgements and thanks are due to
Danita Cochrane for specialty costumes, Michelle
Adamson-Brandt for set and bookmark graphic design,
and Terry Settles-Technical Director. Terry also
bought a trailer and built special carts to haul all
the set and equipment for the Traveling Troupe.
This project is partially funded by a grant from
Inland Northwest Community Foundation-
Florence Wasmer Fund for Arts and Culture.
Thank you!
